90 lakh beneficiaries of Modi government’s Ujjwala scheme did not refill the cylinder

In the last financial year, 90 lakh beneficiaries who took LPG cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana of the Central Government have not filled the cylinder again. The Ujjwala scheme was launched by PM Modi on 1 May 2016 in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. March 2020 Under this scheme, a target of 8 crore LPG cylinders was set and the government has given 9 crore gas connections more than the target. Ujjwala 2.0 (PMUY2.0) has been launched in the financial year 2021-22.

According to information received from RTI, IndianOil said that out of LPG connections given till March 2021, about 65 lakh customers have not filled LPG cylinders in the last financial year, while 9.1 lakh customers of Hindustan Petroleum and 15.96 lakh customers of Bharat Petroleum have not filled LPG cylinders. The cylinder has not been filled. Bharat Petroleum said that this figure is for the connections given in the first phase of the Ujjwala scheme till September 2019.

It is worth noting that during the last financial year, about 52 lakh customers of Indian Oil had LPG cylinders once a year, while 27.58 lakh customers of Hindustan Petroleum and 28.56 lakh customers of Bharat Petroleum filled cylinders only once in a year.
