Sri Lanka’s new PM Ranil Wickremesinghe said, the situation will be worse now

The country is facing fuel shortage and rising food prices. Some Sri Lankan citizens are not even getting food. The way the government has tried to deal with the crisis, people are angry and there have been violent demonstrations against it. Ranil Wickremesinghe has been made the Prime Minister to deal with the ongoing protests across the country and bring the situation under control.
Opposition MP Wickremesinghe has become the Prime Minister of the country for the sixth time
In his first interview after taking office, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe told the BBC that he would ensure that the people of Sri Lanka get three meals a day. nAppealing for more financial help from the world, he said, “Hunger will not be a problem and we will find food.”
The country’s new prime minister said Sri Lanka’s economy has “crashed”, but his message to the people of the country is to “be patient, I will bring the situation back on track”.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa administered the oath of office to Ranil Wickremesinghe as prime minister on Thursday, but there is dissatisfaction with his appointment as he is seen as close to the politically powerful Rajapaksa family.
In his interview, Wickremesinghe said that he agrees with the protesters’ demand for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but it will not happen. Wickremesinghe said, “I have come here to see the welfare of the people.”
The economy of Sri Lanka is continuously falling. Food items, fuel and medicines are either not available or have become out of the economic reach of the people. Many people have lost their lives while standing in line to get oil filled at petrol pumps.
This is Sri Lanka’s worst economic crisis since it gained independence from Britain in 1948
A 68-year-old woman from Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, told AFP news agency, “We don’t have kerosene, we don’t have petrol, we don’t even have diesel. We don’t have cooking gas and we don’t have wood stoves.
“We are fighting every day to feed our children. Food prices have tripled. How do we run our lives?”
The biggest reason for Sri Lanka’s economic crisis is that Sri Lanka is dependent on imports for its daily needs, but Sri Lanka does not have dollars to pay the bill of imports. Its foreign exchange reserves are continuously falling.
The economy of Sri Lanka has also been hit by the Kovid epidemic. At the same time, the church blasts of the year 2019 had damaged tourism in the country. At the same time, experts believe that the poor economic management of the government has also been responsible for Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.
