Senior Punjab leader Sunil Jakhar, who resigned from Congress, joined BJP today. Sunil Jakhar took membership of the party in the presence of BJP’s national president JP Nadda in Delhi today.

Sunil Jakhar said, ‘I am grateful to everyone that they have joined BJP. Wasn’t an easy job. My relationship with Congress is 50 years old. I have been in Congress for three generations. Sunil Jakhar did not do the work of breaking politics for personal interest. Punjab is the land of Sadhu Pir. This is the beginning of nationalism. There was no personal quarrel but there were some issues. There is no discrimination in Punjab so far. Sunil was in the dock for the fact that I raised the question that you cannot divide Punjab into any caste and religion.

Jakhar resigned from Congress on May 14

Sunil Jakhar had resigned from the Congress on 14 May. However, since the time of the Punjab Assembly elections, he had a rift with the Congress. After the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh in Punjab, when the party made Charanjit Singh Channi as CM, Jakhar had also expressed his displeasure by making statements several times. However, at that time Rahul Gandhi had also tried to persuade Sunil Jakhar during the Punjab elections.

Congress suspended for two years

In fact, on April 26, the AICC disciplinary panel suspended Sunil Jakhar from the party for two years. He had criticized former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and held him responsible for the party after the Congress’s defeat from the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.

‘Questions were raised on Congress’s Chintan Shivir’

Sunil Jakhar had also given advice to the Congress while announcing his resignation. He had said that nothing would be done by setting up a contemplation camp in this manner. Sunil Jakhar said that Congress’s Chintan Shivir was just a formality. Congress needs a worry camp.

He said, “In the UP elections, in 390 seats, the Congress party got a few thousand votes. Congress could not win even after protesting against the government in Goa-Uttarakhand. I agree that Congress needs to think on this. I am not just blaming the high command for these lapses, there have been other shortcomings as well.

Sidhu had defended Jakhar

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has defended Sunil Jakhar. He said that the Congress party should not spare Sunil Jakhar. He is an asset of the Congress party. Any differences can be resolved at the table.
