Uttarakhand : Yamunotri highway opened after 25 hours again closed, 7000 passengers stranded, movement of big vehicles also stopped
The Yamunotri Highway, which opened after 25 hours, was again closed due to landslides on Friday. During this, there was a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the highway. Around 250 to 300 vehicles were stranded here. The team of NH, engaged in smoothening the highway, could barely remove the small vehicles, but the movement of big vehicles could not happen.
On Friday, about 7000 passengers got stuck here due to landslide on the highway. An attempt was made to open the highway, but in the end the administration appealed to the people to go to Gangotri first. After being stuck here for hours, many passengers turned to Gangotri. In view of the situation, the administration has closed the highway for three days for the movement of big vehicles.
After large vehicles on the Yamunotri Highway, there was a jam of about five km from Pali Gad to Sayana Chatti. The movement of small vehicles is also risky here. The workers have also refused to work in view of the risk. Opening the blocked Yamunotri Highway near Rana Chatti for traffic is no less than a challenge. Where the highway wall had collapsed, there was a deep ditch at the bottom. While there are hard rocks above the highway.
The wall of Yamunotri Highway near Rana Chatti collapsed at 6 pm on Wednesday, due to which the movement of big vehicles was stopped here. The personnel of the NH section had started the repair work from Wednesday night itself.
During the repair work, NH Executive Engineer Rajesh Pant, one assistant and one junior engineer and 12 laborers opened the highway after 25 hours of hard work, but then the highway was closed on Friday due to landslide.
CO Barkot Surendra Bhandari said that passengers are being sent to Yamunotri in small vehicles. For this, arrangements have been made for small vehicles in Dobta.

The CO said that efforts would be made to complete the wall installation work on NH within three days. It is likely that after three days the highway will be fully opened.
