Ex-Commissioner of Income Tax surrenders: No relief from Supreme Court, disproportionate assets case sent to Haridwar Jail

After the order of the Supreme Court, finally former Income Tax Commissioner Shwetabh Suman surrendered. Shwetabha Suman has been sent to Roshanabad, Haridwar jail. On Friday, after completing all the formalities related to surrender, Shwetabha Suman was handed over to the jail administration.

Shwetabha Suman completed the formalities of surrender in Haridwar Jail itself. On May 13, the Supreme Court has given time to the other accused Dr. Arun Kumar Singh to surrender for some time. In the case of disproportionate assets, Shwetabha Suman has also lived in Haridwar jail in the past.

Later, on getting interim bail, Shwetabha Suman was released from Haridwar jail itself. On March 5, 2022, orders were given to take custody of Shwetabh Suman, Dr. Arun Kumar Singh and Rajendra Vikram Singh, rejecting the bail bonds. Shwetabh Suman was earlier sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of five crores. Recently, the High Court had made it five years rigorous imprisonment.

Against this order, Shwetabha Suman filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court. But on 22 April, the court dismissed the special leave petition and ordered surrender. In the order of May 13, the Supreme Court had ordered the surrender of Shwetabh Suman and two other accused within a week. After this order, Shwetabha Suman surrendered. Haridwar Jail Administration has confirmed Shwetabha Suman’s going to jail.
