According to WHO, monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease. It spreads from animals to humans and then can spread from human to human. At present, not a single case of monkeypox has been reported in India, but in view of the cases in other countries, the Union Health Department has directed all the states to be alert. - All suspected patients will be closely monitored who have traveled to the affected countries in the last 21 days.
- Instructions have been given to give the information of these suspected patients from the local district officer to the health department immediately.
- Passengers from endemic and non-endemic countries are being screened at the airport.
- All infection control methods should be followed while treating such patients.
- If the report comes positive then contact tracing will be started.
- Blood sputum and samples of suspected patients will be sent to NIV Pune for testing.
- For suspected cases, a separate ward has been set up at Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai where 28 beds have been kept.
- Samples of suspected cases will be sent to NIV Pune.
- People who came in contact with the patient in the last 21 days will have to be immediately identified and isolated.
- Isolation cannot be ended until all wounds of suspected patients have healed and a new layer of skin is formed and must be quarantined until then.
