BJP announces names of its 16 candidates for Rajya Sabha elections

BJP has announced the names of its 16 candidates for the Rajya Sabha. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman will be the candidate from Karnataka and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will be the candidate from Maharashtra. Ghanshyam Tiwari has been nominated from Rajasthan and Laxmikant Vajpayee from Uttar Pradesh.

Radha Mohan Agarwal, who left Gorakhpur Sadar seat for Yogi Adityanath from UP, has been made the candidate. Surendra Nagar, who came from SP, will also get a place in the Rajya Sabha. Baburam Nishad, Darshana Singh and Sangeeta Yadav have also got a place from UP. However, two more names are yet to be announced from UP.

Darshana Singh is the National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha. Sangeeta Yadav is a former MLA from Chauri Chaura seat of Gorakhpur and is an office-bearer of BJP Mahila Morcha. Baburam Nishad is the former vice-president of the UP BJP and the chairman of the Backward Castes Commission in UP. Laxmikant Bajpai is the Brahmin face of the party in UP and has been the state unit president of the party. Surendra Singh Nagar is the vice-president of UP BJP and a Rajya Sabha member.

Kalpana Saini has been nominated from Uttarakhand, Satish Chandra Dubey and Shambhu Sharan Patel from Bihar. Krishanlal Panwar from Haryana and Kavita Patidar from Madhya Pradesh will be the BJP candidates.

Jaggesh from Karnataka and Anil Bonde from Maharashtra will also be BJP candidates. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s name is not in the list. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand.

The names of some more BJP candidates are yet to come. Right now, one name each from Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and two names from Uttar Pradesh are yet to come. Apart from this, BJP can contest elections from Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka by fielding candidates for one additional seat. The party’s strategy is to win seats in some states through elections.
