‘Astra missile’ to hit air-to-air, Defense Ministry’s agreement with Bharat Dynamics

In order to equip the Air Force and Navy with the ‘Astra missile’ capable of long-range strikes, the Defense Ministry has signed an agreement of Rs 2971 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the purchase of this air-to-air missile. . Purchased for the Air Force and Navy, this missile is capable of hitting the target beyond the Beyond Visual Range, that is, as far as can be seen.

In fact, this is also considered an important step in the defense sector to take forward the campaign of ‘Self-reliant India’. This missile will be effective in long range air to air attack. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted on Tuesday that this agreement has been done under the indigenously developed and designed category. He said that till now the technology to manufacture this type of missile was not available in the country itself.

It was also informed that the Defense Research and Development Organization has transferred this technology to BDL for manufacturing the missile and its associated systems. The work of making these missiles has also started. He said that this project is in keeping with the spirit of self-reliant India and it is a big step in the country’s journey towards making air-to-air missiles.

Along with this, this step will lead to development of infrastructure facilities in Bharat Dynamics Limited. Not only this, opportunities will also increase for micro and small units in the field of aerospace technology. On the other hand, the technology to make this missile has also been sent to BDL so that its production can be started as soon as possible.
