‘Monkeypox patient should be monitored for 21 days’, Uttarakhand issued guidelines

Amidst the increasing threat of monkeypox in the world, the Uttarakhand government has issued a precautionary guideline. According to this, a person infected with monkeypox will be monitored. After 21 days monitoring should be done daily.
In view of the danger of monkeypox spreading rapidly in many countries, according to the order of the Union Health Ministry, the Uttarakhand government has issued guidelines regarding the management of monkeypox. However, the government has claimed that no case of monkeypox has been reported in the country so far.
Monkeypox was detected in monkeys in 1958
Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus that is similar to smallpox but less severe. Monkeypox virus belongs to the orthopoxvirus genus of the family Poxviridae. In 1958, two smallpox-like diseases were detected in monkeys, one of them being monkeypox.
This virus spreads from animals to humans
According to Dr. Vikrant Shah, Consulting Physician and Infection Specialist at Jain Multispecialty Hospital, Chembur, monkeypox is a zoonosis disease that spreads mostly from animals to humans in Africa.
Can spread through sneezing, contact with saliva
According to Dr. Rajesh Jaria, Internal Medicine Consultant at Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research St. Khar, viruses are very microscopic organisms. Sometimes even physical distance does not stop the virus and it also passes from one organism to another through very microscopic particles.
Monkeypox can be spread through contact with infected animals or body fluids (sneeze, saliva, pus etc.) from infected humans and that is why it is spreading so fast. The estimated rate of spread of this virus is 3.3 to 30 percent. However, the recently spread monkeypox infection in Congo had an outbreak rate of 73 percent.
According to Professor Jimmy Whitworth, infectious disease specialist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the monkeypox virus can be transmitted through a surface, bedding, clothing or breath. But it is easiest to spread infection with this virus through skin-to-skin contact. .Maybe this virus is spreading sexually rapidly and it needs to be detected. Because if it is true then this virus is a new way of spreading.
Symptoms of “fever-headache, rash on the body”
Monkeypox is milder than smallpox. Its symptoms are fever, headache, body rash and flu-like. These symptoms go away on their own within 3 weeks. Apart from this, monkeypox also enlarges the lymph nodes or glands in the body.
Most people exposed to monkeypox have experienced only fever, body aches, chills and fatigue. If the infection is more severe, there may be a rash and sores on the face and hands, which can gradually spread to the rest of the body.
What is the treatment for monkeypox?
People exposed to the virus are often given a few doses of the smallpox vaccine, as this has been shown to be effective against monkeypox. Apart from this, scientists are also engaged in making antiviral drugs. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control recommends that all suspected patients be isolated and those at high risk are vaccinated against smallpox.
