Rahul called today for questioning in National Herald case, Sonia will go on June 8

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. ED has called Rahul for questioning on June 2 i.e. today and Sonia on June 8 in the money laundering case (under section 50 Act). According to sources, Rahul has sought time for this citing being out, while Sonia will join the questioning on June 8.

The agency has asked both the leaders to join the investigation of the National Herald case. In this case, the ED had included two big Congress leaders Pawan Bansal and Mallikarjun Kharge in the investigation on April 12. In 2012, Subramanian Swamy filed a case against Sonia and Rahul. In this, Swamy had accused the Gandhi family of misappropriation of 55 crores.

Congress attack on central government
Congress has attacked the central government on the issue of the notice. Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the dictatorial government is scared, so revenge is being taken. He said that the government has become blind in the spirit of revenge. Sent ED summons to Sonia and Rahul in National Herald case.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that there is a fabricated allegation and there is a feeling of vengeance. ED will get nothing in this case. Rahul Gandhi is out, will ask for time for him.

  1. This case is going on for the last 7-8 years and till now the agency has not got anything in it.
  2. Equity conversion was done to strengthen the company and to eliminate debt.
  3. The money that came out of this equity was given to the workers and it was done with complete transparency.
  4. After 7 years, this summon has been sent to divert the attention of the people. The people of the country understand everything.
  5. Opposition parties are being intimidated by misusing ED, CBI and Income Tax.

Subramanian Swamy had alleged in 2012 that Congress had given Rs 90 crore to Rahul and Sonia from party funds. Its purpose was to acquire assets of 2 thousand crores of Associate Journals. For this, the Gandhi family had given only a nominal amount of Rs 50 lakh.

Understand the whole case in detail
In 1938, the Congress Party formed Associate Journals Limited (AJL). Under this, the National Herald newspaper was brought out. AJL had a debt of more than 90 crores and another company was formed to eliminate this. Whose name was Young India Limited.

In this, the share of Rahul and Sonia was 38-38%. 9 crore shares of AJL were given to Young India. It was said that Young India would pay the liabilities of AJL in lieu of this, but due to the high stake, Young India got the ownership rights. The loan of 90 crores given by Congress to meet the liabilities of AJL was also waived off later.

What happened in the case so far

  1. On 1 November 2012, Subramanian Swamy filed a case in Delhi Court, in which apart from Sonia-Rahul, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda were made accused.
  2. On 26 June 2014, the Metropolitan Magistrate issued summons against all the accused including Sonia-Rahul.
  3. On August 1, 2014, the ED took cognizance of the matter and registered a money laundering case.
  4. In May 2019, ED seized assets worth 64 crores related to this case.
  5. On 19 December 2015, Delhi Patiala Court granted bail to all the accused including Sonia, Rahul in this case.
  6. On 9 September 2018, the Delhi High Court gave a blow to Sonia and Rahul in this case. The court had dismissed the petition against the notice of the Income Tax Department.

The Congress challenged this in the Supreme Court as well, but on December 4, 2018, the court said that the Income Tax investigation would continue. However, no order will be passed till the next hearing.
