Municipal elections in two phases in MP; the first on 6 and the second on July 13; Result on 17-18

After the announcement of Panchayat elections in Madhya Pradesh, the dates for the urban body elections have been announced on Wednesday. The elections will be held in two phases. The first phase will be held on July 6 and the second phase on July 13. The results for the first phase will be declared on July 17 and the results for the second phase on July 18. The model code of conduct has come into force as soon as the election dates are announced. Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur will go to polls in the first phase. That is, voting will be held here on July 6.

State Election Commissioner BP Singh gave this information in a press conference on Wednesday. He said that elections would be held in a total of 347 bodies. Voting will be held on 133 bodies in the first phase and 214 in the second phase. 19, 977 polling stations have been set up in the state. Duty of 87,937 employees has been deployed for voting. Elections will be conducted through EVMs. The polling time will be from 7 am to 5 pm.

NOTA option

In every ward of Indore and Bhopal, 5-5 EVM reserves will be kept. NOTA option will be given. The mayor of the municipal corporation will be directly elected by the public. The councilors will choose the president of the municipality and the city council. Case will be registered for giving false affidavit. It will be necessary to take permission for meetings and rallies.

The tenure of 57 bodies is not yet complete

State Election Commission Commissioner Basant Pratap Singh said that out of 378 urban bodies already constituted, the tenure of 321 bodies has been completed. The tenure of 57 bodies is yet to be completed. Elections will be held for 318 out of 321 civic bodies and for 29 municipal councils out of 35 newly formed urban bodies, ie 347 urban bodies. Commissioner Singh said that in 347 urban bodies, 6507 councilors and 16 mayors of municipal corporations would be elected by the commission through direct system. The President and Vice-Chairman will be elected by the elected councilors of the Municipal Council and the Municipal Councils.

52 days code of conduct

The model code of conduct was applicable in rural areas from May 27, the date of announcement of panchayat elections. With the announcement of the urban body, the model code of conduct has come into force in the state. Overall, the code of conduct will remain in force for 52 days. State Election Commissioner Singh said that the biggest challenge in the election was how to stop the model code of conduct from running for three-four months, because it is not a good thing to have the model code in force for a long time. Panchayat elections will be held on June 25, July 1 and July 8. The special thing is that in the areas where Panchayat elections have been held, the urban body elections will be held on 6th July. There are also most such areas where Panchayat elections will not be held on July 8.

  • Action has been taken by the Madhya Pradesh government for the expansion and contraction of the municipal council Gadhakota and municipal council Khurai district Sagar, municipal council Malajkhand district-Balaghat. The process of division and reservation of wards in these 3 urban bodies is being done by the Madhya Pradesh government. After the process of ward division, the voter list will be prepared by the commission.

  • The elections to the urban bodies will be held on party basis.
  • There shall be a Returning Officer for each urban body and two or more Assistant Returning Officers to assist him.
  • There are 55,000 EVMs available for elections. 30,761 EVMs will be used for the elections. 18689 EVMs (including reserve EVMs) will be used in the first phase and 12072 EVMs in the second phase.

The process of reservation for conducting elections in 397 urban bodies of the state has been completed on Tuesday. The reservation of OBCs has increased from 25 to 28% in 99 municipalities in urban bodies. In 2015, there were 25 seats reserved for OBCs in municipalities in the state, whose number has increased to 28. Reservation of OBC in Municipal Corporations was 25% and in Municipal Council 24.16%.

At the same time, the process of reservation for Zilla Panchayat President was also done on Tuesday. Out of its 52 seats, only 4 seats were reserved for OBC reservation. 9 seats less than last time. Last time in the year 2014-15, 13 seats were reserved for OBCs.
