Uttarakhand : Congress’s crushing defeat in Champawat by-election also, party will conduct internal investigation

After the defeat in the assembly elections, the Congress had a chance to taste the victory in the Champawat by-election, but it also lost it. The party once again did not appear united throughout the election. According to party sources, there has been a lot of infighting in the by-elections. Expressing concern over such possibilities, the state president has said that an internal inquiry should be conducted.

In the Champawat by-election, the Congress candidate got less than four thousand votes, whereas in the assembly elections held this year in the same seat, he got more than 27 thousand votes. Then the margin of victory and defeat was around five thousand. Now it is a matter of brainstorming for the party that what happened in just three months that its vote percentage came to the floor all of a sudden.

In the assembly elections, the party won 11 seats from Kumaon. Questions are also being raised on the role of Congress leaders in this election. Especially the MLAs who won from Kumaon are on target. Of these, Dharchula MLA Harish Dhami had already announced to leave the seat for Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. MLA Manoj Tiwari, Bhuvan Kapri and Khushal Singh Adhikari were kept in the committee formed for election management. There are also discussions about how this committee managed.

Here, Himesh Kharkhwal, who was the party’s candidate in the assembly elections, was made the chief election convener. Kharkhwal, who got more than 27 thousand votes in his election, could not show anything amazing in this election. According to party sources, Kharkhwal’s role in this election was negligible. At the same time, questions are also being raised about the role of five MLAs Manoj Tiwari, Madan Bisht Mayuk Mehar, Khushal Singh Adhikari, Harish Dhami from Almora parliamentary seat.

However, State President Karan Mahra, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and MP Pradeep Tamta were seen standing on the front but the party could not get the candidate votes according to his stature.
