A bus carrying devotees of Char Dham Yatra fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand on Sunday. With this, Uttarakhand, infamous for accidents, again came into the limelight. Statistics show that around 5,000 people have lost their lives in 7,000 vehicle accidents in the last five years. The same number of people were seriously injured. Earlier this year itself, 300 people lost their lives in 500 road accidents in the state.
The figure is also frightening because in terms of population, accidents and deaths are the highest in the country. Road accidents have caused more deaths than disasters in this Himalayan state. Another shocking thing is that accidents are less on good roads, but in Uttarakhand the situation is opposite. Accidents are happening more where the road is good. After the construction of the all-weather road, the roads have become very wide.
Due to this the drivers are going at over speed. Vehicles are getting out of control at the turn. Buses of passengers from Madhya Pradesh also fell into a gorge at Yamunotri due to over speeding. Investigation revealed that the drivers are completing the journey in just 7 to 10 days in order to make more trips. Earlier it used to take 15 days.
The driver’s mistake is coming in front of the investigation
The negligence of the driver is coming to the fore in the investigation of the bus accident of the pilgrims of MP near Damta in Yamunotri Highway. Driver Hira Singh is also among the injured. He had jumped off the bus before falling into the ditch. He told the police that the steering of the bus was locked.
Now it is coming out in the investigation that where the bus fell, the road was very wide. Had the steering been locked, the bus could have been stopped. The speed of the bus was much more than the prescribed limit, so the bus could not stop.
It’s season time for drivers
Char Dham pilgrimage time is of season for travel business. At the same time, the inquiries of drivers are also highest. The drivers of most travel agencies are also working continuously. In the last month alone, 16.11 lakh pilgrims have reached here.
