Sharad Pawar turned down the offer of presidential candidature, Mamta Banerjee suggested two new names
In the meeting convened by Mamta Banerjee regarding the Presidential election, Sharad Pawar has turned down the proposal of Presidential candidature. It is said that Sharad Pawar has expressed his desire to remain active in politics. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had called a meeting of 22 political parties in Delhi on Wednesday for the presidential election to be held on July 18. However, only the leaders of 16 opposition parties attended this meeting. Sources said that after this Mamata Banerjee proposed the names of Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Farooq Abdullah for the post of President. The opposition parties will meet once again within a week to formulate a concrete strategy on this subject and even to name the presidential candidate.
There will be another meeting next week
Mamata Banerjee, who organized the meeting, said that today a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the leaders of the opposition. It was decided in the meeting that Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee and Malikarjun Kharge would talk to the leaders of all the opposition parties to reach a consensus. NCP leader Subhash Desai said that it has been decided in the meeting that the leaders of opposition parties will meet again after a week. They will agree on the name of the presidential candidate. At present, the name of Sharad Pawar was discussed in the meeting, but Pawar is not ready to become a candidate.

Will take opinion from the parties who did not attend the meeting: Pawar
NCP leader Sharad Pawar rejected Mamata Banerjee’s offer of opposition’s presidential candidate, saying that he wants to remain in active politics. Earlier, 81-year-old Sharad Pawar, in a meeting with the leaders of his party, had put an end to the speculation of becoming the Presidential candidate. Sources said that today once again Sharad Pawar refused to become the presidential candidate from the opposition. After the meeting, Sharad Pawar said that the leaders who have not been able to reach the meeting, will definitely take their opinion about it.

‘Modi government is misusing institutions’
Mamta Banerjee said that all important party leaders came. CPM and CPI also came. TMC, PDP leaders also came. All the party leaders agreed on the name of Sharad Pawar but Pawar is not ready yet. Mamta Banerjee said that today the Modi government is misusing all the institutions. We all need to sit together to stop this.
Invitation was sent to 22 opposition parties including Chief Ministers in this meeting. In this meeting of Mamata Banerjee, AAP convener Arvind Kejraveel and Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K. Chandrakheshar Rao did not attend the meeting. At the same time, no leader from Naveen Patnaik’s party BJD also joined it. Along with this, Akali Dal and Jaganmohan Reddy’s party also stayed away from this meeting. This meeting was called by Mamta Banerjee to decide the presidential candidate from the opposition in the upcoming presidential election.
The meeting was attended by Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel from NCP, Akhilesh Yadav from SP, Mehbooba Mufti from PDP, Jairam Ramesh and Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress, TR Balu of DMK, Subhash Desai and Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena, HD Kumaraswamy from JDS and former Prime Minister. HD Deve Gowda, Umar Abdullah from National Conference, Manoj Jha from RJP and AD Singh attended the meeting.
After this, a meeting of leaders of opposition parties can be held on June 20 or 21, in which the final decision of who will be the candidate from the opposition side will be taken. The last date for nominations for the presidential election is June 29. The opposition parties will decide their candidate about a week before this.
