NDRF said two more teams are being sent for rescue work in Manipur

The NDRF on Thursday said it is sending two teams for rescue work in Manipur’s Noni district, where landslides have claimed eight lives so far, while many people are still feared trapped under the rubble. .

He said that the incident happened on Wednesday night at Tupul Yard railway construction camp.

At least eight people were killed while around 70 others were missing in a landslide at a railway construction site in Noni district, officials said.

A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) spokesperson said, “Eight bodies were fished out by various agencies even before the force team reached the spot while 18 rescued people were shifted to hospital for treatment.” ‘

Sharing the information till 6.55 pm, he said, “Many people are still feared trapped under the debris and the rescue operation is on.”

The spokesperson said that one NDRF team immediately rushed to the spot from the base camp in Imphal while two more teams (one from Kohima in Nagaland and the other from Silchar in Assam) “have been sent to the spot and are on their way”.

The force has also engaged a sniffer dog in the rescue operation. In a video shared by NDRF, it is seen that the sniffer dog is digging the wet soil and searching for possible live people.

Local administration and other rescue agencies are using heavy earthmovers to expedite the rescue work.

Following the landslide, heavy debris fell on the camp and blocked the course of the Eje river. Due to this, a reservoir has formed there and there is a danger of flooding in the low-lying areas.
