Senior journalist, litterateur, filmmaker Dr. R. K. Verma is no more, said goodbye to the world at the age of 83

When the Emergency came for the first time in the country, only a few newspapers were published from Dehradun and Dr. RK Verma was the one who played the most important role in them. Journalist, litterateur, filmmaker Dr. RK Verma breathed his last today at the age of 83 at his Gandhi Road residence in Dehradun. He was ill for the past one year and was at home. Dr. Verma’s family consists of wife Sneh Verma, four sons Sanjeev Verma, Rajiv Verma, Manish Verma, Sachin Verma and two daughters Bindu, Ritu.

Dr. Verma was also associated with Dainik Navjeevan, the Journal of the Film Federation of India for a long time.

Establishing the Nagarik Parishad, Dr. RK Verma also awarded Doon Ratna and Uttarakhand Ratna to the people doing selfless service and upliftment in the state of Uttarakhand. Satpal Maharaj, Aslam Khan, Nityanand Swami, Air Marshal Dilbagh Singh, Air Vice Marshal HL Kapoor, Sunder Lal Bahuguna, Kartar Singh (Shahid Bhagat Singh’s brother), RS Tolia, Dr. Mahesh Kuriyal, Padma Shri. Honored many personalities like Shri Dr. RK Jain, Cheshire Home, Dehradun, Sewa Dham etc.

Dr RK Verma was the father of the cooperative movement of Uttarakhand.

The first journalist club in Uttarakhand, the president of the Uttarakhand Film Chamber of Commerce, the judges of the film festival committee, the exhibition of newspapers of the country and the world, etc. were the major areas of Dr. Verma.

Dr RK Verma was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Film Board and was the convener of the Film Policy Committee of Uttarakhand.

He was made a jury member of the committee of the Film Festival 2005.

Dr. RK Verma’s name was also sent by Chief Minister Uttarakhand for Padma Shri award in 2005 and 2006.

Recently, in the list of honoring the MISA agitators, the name of Dr. RK Verma remained in the official correspondence.
