Uttarakhand / Dehradun : There will be a ban on begging in the city, strong action will be taken for breaking the rules; DM issued orders
Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun District Magistrate R Rajesh Kumar has issued a major order prohibiting begging and directed the officials to take all necessary steps to stop begging. In a meeting with other officials including Assistant Labor Commissioner of Rishikesh and Dehradun, he gave clear instructions that wherever begging is being done or is being done, it should be effectively banned.
Legal action will be taken if caught begging
Dehradun DM R Rajesh Kumar termed begging as a stigma on the society and said that law will take its own course in this regard and wherever beggars are found, legal action will be taken against them.
Task force constituted at district level
R Rajesh Kumar said that begging in the streets and in public places is not only a legal offense but it also brings shame to humanity. The District Magistrate said that a task force has been constituted at the district level to stop begging, which will keep an eye on the beggars.
How many beggars are there in which state?
According to a recent survey, the lowest number of beggars in the country is in Lakshadweep, where there are only 2 beggars. According to this report tabled in Parliament, West Bengal has the highest number of beggars, where 81244 people beg. The number of beggars in Uttar Pradesh at number two is 65838, out of which 41859 are males and 23976 are females. At the same time, the number of beggars in Uttarakhand is 3320.
