Uttarakhand / Almora : A dozen houses in danger due to landslide in Sakniakot of Hawalbagh
The rain has added to the problems of the people. About a dozen families have come under threat due to landslides in Sakniakot of Hawalbagh block due to rain. Two residential houses have collapsed in the courtyard. Affected families have taken shelter at the neighbour’s place. On information, Tehsildar reached the spot riding on JCB.
Villagers told that due to the cutting done during the construction of the Dadimkhola-Sakniakot road being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna, heavy landslides are taking place in the area. On Friday, Tehsildar Khushboo Arya and District Panchayat member Mahesh Nayal and PMGSY Assistant Engineer Deep Chandra Pandey etc. inspected the area, two families were shifted. The houses are on the verge of collapse due to landslide in front of the house of Puran Singh Rana son Jagdish Singh Rana and Hema Devi, situated on top of the road under construction in Sakniakot village. His toilet, the stairs outside the courtyard house have been damaged. Seeing the danger to the houses, they have taken shelter in their neighbourhood. Apart from this, about a dozen houses in the area, including Rajendra Singh Rana, have been threatened by landslides. The villagers allege that due to the cutting of the said road under construction, there has been a huge landslide in front of their houses. Apart from this, the drinking water scheme of the village has been damaged. The drinking water water of the villagers has also been buried due to the debris of the road cutting. The departments have turned a blind eye even after several times demanding the departmental officials to construct security walls in the area and clear the debris.

On Friday, the matter was informed to the Tehsildar and the district administration. After inspecting the spot, seeing the possible danger to the houses, they have been shifted to the neighboring place. The executing agency has been asked to take immediate protective action and repair the drinking water drain. PMGSY has been demanded to take immediate protective work under the disaster.

Immediately after getting the information, after visiting the spot, two families who came under threat have been shifted to neighboring houses. The departmental officers have been instructed to do protective work, to improve the drinking water schemes of the village. Financial assistance will be given to the affected families as per rules.
