Uttarakhand: CM lays foundation stone of fish processing unit – said – government will promote fisheries, will get agriculture status and electricity rate, better market will be available with mandi in Kumaon and Garhwal
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the program organized by the Department of Fisheries on the occasion of National Fisheries Day at IRDT Auditorium Survey Chowk, Dehradun on Sunday. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of fish processing unit to be set up at Directorate of Fisheries, Barasi Grant, Dehradun. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that Mukhya Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana would be started on the lines of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana to promote fisheries in the state. While giving the status of agriculture to fisheries, the electricity rates for fisheries will be fixed on the agricultural rates. The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a fish market for the convenience of fish farmers in Garhwal and Kumaon.
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami visited all the stalls related to the Fisheries Department on this occasion. Under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, 2 beneficiaries were presented with motorcycles and ice boxes. Allotment of leases of ponds of village society of Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts and two persons from each district who did special work in the field of fisheries were also honored by the Chief Minister.
Extending best wishes on Fisheries Day, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said that good work is being done by the people in the state in the field of fisheries. The government is trying to ensure that the products get a good market. Expressing happiness over the growing impact of fisheries in the hilly region of the state, the Chief Minister Shri Dhami said that this is a new hope for self-employment. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, various schemes have been launched in every sector. Prime Minister Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Yojana and other public welfare schemes of the Central Government and various public welfare schemes being run by the State Government, work is being done to bring forward the person standing at the last end of the society.
Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Bahuguna said that Uttarakhand has many possibilities in the field of fisheries. Under the works being done by the government to utilize the available water resources from the point of view of fisheries, about 11 thousand people are directly and indirectly associated with fisheries. The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is being operated by the Central Government for the works of fisheries development. About 336 individual beneficiaries and 17 cooperative societies have been benefitted. Trout farming project is being run by the government to establish it as a better means of employment in remote areas of high altitude. On this occasion MLA Mr. Khajan Das, MLA Mr. Brij Bhushan Gairola, MLA Mr. Umesh Sharma Kau, Secretary Mr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Dr. BVRC Purushottam, fishermen from different districts and others were present.
