Shinzo Abe’s party got majority in Japan, three days ago during election campaign, now got record seats after 10 years
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has won the election following the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The ruling LDP’s Komito coalition retained a majority by securing 76 seats. In this election 52.05% of the voters had voted, which is more than in 2019. However, it is the second lowest in the electoral history of Japan.
With this victory, the LDP has 146 seats in the 248-member upper house. Whereas, the opposition Democratic Party fell from 23 seats to under 20. This is the best performance of LDP since 2013.
Japan Times reported that after the victory, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida observed silence for Abe. After this he told the media – Violence has threatened the foundation of our democracy and the electoral process. Although I was completely prepared for this choice.
Kishida’s chair safe for three years
After this victory, Kishida no longer needs to go to the polls for the next three years, giving him complete freedom to pursue his policy. However, the challenge of inflation and national security issues arising out of the Corona epidemic and Ukraine war still remains in front of them.
In his first address after the victory, the Japanese Prime Minister said – The purpose of our new economic model is to bring the economy back on track. Along with this, we will continue to work step by step on diplomacy, security and constitutional amendment.
Abe had lost his life during the first three election campaigns
Three days ago, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot dead during an election campaign in the Japanese city of Nara. Japan’s premium investigation agency NPA (National Police Agency) is investigating this matter.
