Senior diplomat Pranay Verma will be appointed as the new High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. This is considered an important appointment in view of the rapidly growing bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh. Verma, a 1994 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam and will take over from Vikram Duraiswami in Dhaka.

Duraiswamy may take over as the High Commissioner of India to the UK. The overall relations between India and Bangladesh have seen considerable expansion in the last few years. India’s High Commissioner to the UK Gayatri Issar Kumar has retired on 30 June.

Indian Ambassador to Kuwait C. George may be appointed as the new Ambassador of India to Japan. George has also served as India’s ambassador to Switzerland in the past. Sanjay Verma, the current Ambassador to Japan, may be appointed as the new High Commissioner to Canada. The post has been lying vacant since Ajay Bisaria retired last week.
