Rishi Sunak’s lead continues as a contender for the post of UK PM, also got the most votes in the second round

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has maintained his lead as the successor of Boris Johnson as the Prime Minister of the UK. In the second round also, he has got the maximum number of votes. Sunak stood first with 101 votes, followed by junior trade minister Penny Mordaunt who secured 83 votes. Foreign Minister Truss came third with 64 votes, while Attorney General Suella Braverman dropped out of the race with 27 votes. Sunak has taken over as the Finance Minister of Britain.

Significantly, Sunak was also a frontrunner in the first round in the race to replace Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader Boris Johnson. After the first phase of voting in the Conservative Party, former chancellor Rishi Sunak got the most votes. Rishi Sunak got a total of 88 votes compared to Penny Mordaunt’s 67, while Truss Lidge had to be satisfied with just 50 votes in the first phase of voting. Let us tell you, Finance Minister Nadim Zhavi and former cabinet minister Jeremy Hunt have already been out of the race. Another Indian-origin MP Suella Braverman is also in the race to become the Prime Minister of the UK. According to the dates released regarding the election, the name of the new Prime Minister of the UK is to be announced on 5 September.
