Maharashtra : Eknath Shinde put a stop on another decision of Uddhav Thackeray, the name of Aurangabad and Osmanabad will not change now

The Eknath Shinde government has put on hold the decision to change the name taken by Uddhav Thackeray in its last cabinet meeting. In his last cabinet meeting before resigning, Thackeray had announced to rename Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad to Dharashiv and Navi Mumbai International Airport after DB Patil.

Let us tell you that the Governor had written a letter to the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove the majority test. In this letter, he had objected to this matter. The governor had said that the government is in a minority, at such a time you cannot take populist decisions. At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also raised the same issue at that time. Sources said that the decision to change the names of the three will be taken by the Shinde government afresh.

The last cabinet meeting of the Uddhav Thackeray government before the fall of the government was on June 29. Aurangabad was renamed as Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad was renamed as Dharashiv and Navi Mumbai International Airport was renamed in this meeting. The then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was also present in this meeting. However, the Congress party had raised objections.

Devendra Fadnavis had said that renaming Aurangabad and Osmanabad is illegal and a hasty decision. The resolution to change the name was passed after the suggestion of a majority test.

Imtiaz Jalil opposes renaming of Aurangabad
AIMIM leader and MP Imtiaz Jaleel had opposed the renaming of Aurangabad. Warning people to take to the streets to fight against it, he insisted that one’s name should not be changed for the wishes of one’s grandfather. Aurangabad’s name should be on my ‘death certificate’.
