Actor-director Pratap Pothen passed away, worked in more than 100 films
Noted multi-lingual actor Pratap Pothen has passed away. He died due to cardiac arrest. The age of the actor was 70 years. He has died in his sleep. Pratap Pothen did a lot of work in Tamil and Malayalam films. Giving information to PTI, wife Amala Pothen said that Pratap Pothen died in his sleep. He was 70 years old. Pratap Pothen also has a daughter.
The senior actor-director was known for his unique dialogue delivery. Pratap Pothen has worked in many Tamil and Malayalam films. He was counted among the top ranked stars of the industry. He was also seen in Kamal Haasan’s film Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu. The film was directed by Legendary K Balachander.
Fans are paying tribute
Kamal Haasan has condoled the death of Pratap Pothen. Pratap Pothen’s first film was Aaravam which was released in the year 1978. The film was directed by Bharathan. After this Pratap Pothen worked in Thakara. This film was released in the year 1979. In the year 1980, he also appeared in the films Lorry and Chamaram. All these films were milestone films of the Malayalam industry. Apart from this, Pratap Pothen also directed the Tamil hit film Vetri Vizha. Kamal Haasan was seen in the lead role in the film. This was the best direction of Pratap Pothen.
Pratap Pothen has also tried his hand in directing along with acting. He has directed 12 films. It featured three Malayalam films, Rithhubhedam (1987), Daisy (1988) and Oru Yathramozhi (1997). There is a wave of mourning in the entire Tamil and Malayalam film industry due to the death of Pratap Pothen. Fans are paying tribute to the actor through social media posts. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition Party leader V D Satheesan, Speaker M B Rajesh and state ministers also paid tributes to the actor.
