‘Ahmad Patel had hatched a conspiracy to topple the Narendra Modi government’; BJP attacker on SIT report

Gujarat Police has opposed the bail plea of social activist Teesta Setalvad, claiming that she was part of a “big conspiracy” hatched by senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel against the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Setalvad is one of the two men who were recently arrested by the Crime Branch of Ahmedabad for hatching a conspiracy to falsely implicate people in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The SIT of Gujarat Police has filed an affidavit in the court. In which it has been claimed that Teesta Setalvad was part of a “big conspiracy” at the behest of Congress veteran late Ahmed Patel to topple the BJP government in the state after the 2002 riots.
On this, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh gave a strong reaction and targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statement issued by the Congress said, “These allegations are part of the Prime Minister’s systematic strategy to absolve himself of any responsibility as Chief Minister of Gujarat for the communal massacre in 2002.” It was because of the unwillingness and inability to control this massacre, the then Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee reminded the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi of his Rajdharma.

Responding to the BJP’s reaction, Sambit Patra said, ‘The conspiracy to malign Gujarat’s image was hatched by Teesta Setalvad and her associates at the behest of Ahmed Patel. Ahmed Patel ji was the political advisor to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

In the affidavit presented in the court, the SIT has written, “The political motive of the applicant (Setalvad) while carrying out this grand conspiracy was to topple or destabilize the elected government.” Illegal financial and other benefits and rewards were obtained from rival political parties in return for falsely implicating innocent people.
Referring to the statements of a witness, the SIT said that the conspiracy was carried out at the behest of late Congress leader Ahmed Patel. It is alleged that Setalvad had received Rs 30 lakh after the 2002 post-Godhra riots at the behest of Ahmed Patel.
The SIT also claimed that “Setalvad used to meet leaders of a major national party in power at that time in Delhi to implicate senior leaders of the BJP government in riot cases”.
Citing another witness, it is claimed that Setalvad had asked a Congress leader in 2006 why the party was “only giving Shabana and Javed a chance” and why they were not being made Rajya Sabha MPs.
Let us tell you, Additional Sessions Judge DD Thakkar took the reply of the SIT on record and fixed the hearing on the bail application on Monday.
Setalvad has been arrested along with former IPS officers RB Sreekumar and Sanjeev Bhatt on charges of fabricating evidence to implicate innocent people in the Gujarat riots cases. Setalvad was arrested by the state police a day after the Supreme Court last month upheld the clean chit given to the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in the Gujarat riots case.
