Uttarakhand / Kotdwar : Market closed in protest against commercial tax, traders’ demonstration

The Kotdwar market remained completely closed in protest against the commercial tax being imposed by the Municipal Corporation. All small and big shops were seen closed from Saneh to Sigddi. Due to the bandh, the passengers coming from outside also had to face many problems in Kotdwar. Medical stores and private clinics also remained closed during this period.

On Monday, a demonstration was organized by the Trade Board from Hindu Panchayat Dharamshala to Tehsil located in Jhanda Chowk, shouting slogans against the tax. After that, a memorandum was sent to the Governor demanding the withdrawal of the tax. These days notices are being sent by the Municipal Corporation from small shops to big establishments in the area to get trade license, which the traders are openly opposing. On Friday also, the traders had decided to close the market on Monday while demonstrating in the corporation office. Under which the market in Kotdwar remained completely closed since Monday morning. Traders have warned that if no concrete decision is taken in this regard in a week, they will be forced to close the market indefinitely.

In the procession, City Industries Board President Mahendra Bisht, Rajendra Bhatia, Sanjay Mittal, Mahendra Singh, Vinay Bhatia, Govind Laddha, Bunty Bhatia, Gopal Kukreti, Ajay Agarwal, Naresh Uttarakhandi, Titu Chandola, Dr. Vijay Maithani, Dr. Manoj Agarwal, Anil Garola, Hemant Pant, Vijay Maheshwari etc. were involved.
