Uttarakhand / Nainital : Pregnant for a quarter of an hour in the rain, the bridge could not be built even after 75 years

Tuesday morning’s rain came as a disaster for the people of Vijaypur village of Gaulapar. The people who came out of the village to come to the city got stuck in the banks when the dry river was in spate. In which there was also a pregnant woman. Who had to come for a checkup at the Women’s Hospital in Haldwani.

After waiting for the water to recede for about a quarter of an hour, the pregnant and others could cross the river. The incident has also raised questions on the negligence of the officials. The demand for a bridge has been going on here since independence. But even after 75 years, the government could not do anything for the people of Vijayapur.

Vijaypur village situated across the dry river in Gaulapar belongs to Tapunuma settlement. People have to face trouble every time during the rainy days. Due to the strong current, crossing the dry river is not free from danger.

In this situation, problems arise for school going children, employed people as well as sick person. Aan Singh Mehta, husband of village head Rama Mehta, told that Pawan, a resident of Vijaypur, had left the house on Tuesday morning to show his pregnant wife Kiran to the doctor.

Both had to reach the women’s hospital. From 8.30 in the morning, both of them waited for the water flow in the bank of the river to subside. Kiran was made to cross the river when the water receded at around quarter to ten. After which the woman could reach the hospital.
