“Parisal, agenda-driven and half-baked information”: CJI NV Ramana on media
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Saturday slammed electronic and social media, saying they are harming democracy. He said that the media is running the ‘Kangaroo Court’ without testing it.
Responding to a verdict on former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet, Justice Ramana said, “Campaigns are actively going on in social media against judges. Judges may not react immediately. Please don’t mistake it for weakness or helplessness.
“New media tools have the potential to expand wide, but they are unable to differentiate between right and wrong, good and bad and real and fake,” the Chief Justice said while delivering a speech at an academic event in Ranchi.
“Media trials cannot be a guiding factor in deciding cases. We are seeing that the media is running the kangaroo court, sometimes even experienced judges find it difficult to decide the cases.
