When Shamshera flopped, Sanjay Dutt got angry, said – why are you calling the film bad without seeing it?
Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Shamshera’ earned much less than expected on the very first day of its release. The opening day collection of this film was Rs 10.25 crore. The film earned Rs 31 crore in its first weekend. This means that the film to be released with the image of larger than life, failing so badly at the box office is a matter to think about for the makers as well as the actors of the film.
“Film making is a passion”
Ranbir Kapoor made a comeback on the silver screen after four years with this film. It was expected that like the film Sanju, Ranbir would be able to make this film also the biggest hit. But box office reports suggest that the actor could not even make the film capable enough to recover its cost. After the release of the film, Ranbir had to listen to the haters. After which director Karan Malhotra wrote a note on Twitter, defending Ranbir and also gave the hashtag of Shamshera Meri Hai.
Now the villain of the film Shuddh Singh i.e. Sanjay Dutt has also come in support of Shamshera. Using the hashtag given by Karan, Sanjay Dutt has written a long note against the haters, where he also openly supported Ranbir.
Sanjay wrote- “Making films is an act of passion. The passion to tell a story, to bring to life characters you have never met before. Shamshera is a labor of love that we have given our all to. It is a film made of blood, sweat and tears. It is a dream that we have brought to the screen. Movies are made to entertain the audience and every film gets its audience, sooner or later… People hate it. Some people are hating the film to such an extent that they have given it the status of a bad film without seeing it.
I find it terrible that people do not respect our hard work. I admire Karan as a filmmaker and mostly as a person. He is one of the finest directors I have worked with in my career spanning four decades.

‘Shamshera will find its own tribe’
Sanjay wrote in the note, “Shamshera will someday find its clan, but until that happens, I am firm with the film. The memories we made, the bonds we shared, the laughs we had, the hardships we went through. I thank the entire unit of the film – the cast and crew, who have been with the film for four years, during the pandemic, through my own personal tough times.”
Sanjay wrote, “Ranbir and I have formed a lifelong bond with this film. His ability to portray his art and sentimentality on screen is the best. It is sad to see how people are so eager to spread hatred on the work of one of the most hardworking and talented actors of our times. Our commitment to art and to it goes beyond the hatred that comes our way. All that being said, the love we feel for the film and its people. Other people will say, it is the job of the people to say!
