Indian women’s hockey team won the second consecutive match at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Wales 3-1

The Indian women’s hockey team registered its second successive win over Wales 3-1 in Pool A at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. The Indian team began its campaign on Friday with a 5-0 win over lower-ranked Ghana.
Even before the match against Wales, Navjot Kaur’s COVID-19 positive came as a blow to the team. Vandana Katariya scored two goals in the 26th and 48th minutes for the Savita Poonia-led side. Gurjit Kaur scored a goal in the 28th minute.
Jenna Hughes scored for Wales in the 45th minute to narrow her team’s margin of defeat. Now the Indian team will face England on August 2. Wales and India last met at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. In this, Wales defeated India 3-2.

India started off aggressively but scored no goals in the first quarter. But India took a 2-0 lead till half time.
