Andhra Pradesh / Visakhapattan: 50 people sick, hospitalized due to gas leak in industrial area

At least 50 people are reported to have fallen ill due to a gas leak in an industrial area near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. They have been admitted to the hospital. According to the information, this incident of gas leak took place in Anakapalle district of Andhra Pradesh. A gas leak was reported in a company in Achutapuram. After some women became ill, they have been taken to the hospital. After the gas leak, the workers complained of panic and vomiting. After this they were provided first aid facility at the Medical Center of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and later admitted to the nearby hospital.

Anakapalle SP said, “There was reportedly a gas leak in Brandix’s premises. 50 people have been shifted to the hospital and work is being done to evacuate the premises.” A similar incident happened on June 3 in the district. Till the time more than 200 women had complained of burning eyes, nervousness and vomiting. Officials had feared leakage of ammonia gas in the Parus Laboratories unit of the area. The team of experts from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology had visited the lamb and conducted tests to find out the leak. The State Pollution Control Board had issued orders to close the lab.
