Government only told the truth of Ujjwala Yojana, 4.3 crore people did not fill cylinder even once

There was a cut in the prices of commercial gas cylinders on the 1st of August, but the prices of domestic LPG cylinders (LPG) remain the same. The government has given subsidy only for the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Subsidy has been abolished for the rest of the LPG consumers. But a data tabled by the government in Parliament showed that a large number of Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries have refilled LPG cylinders even once. Haven’t got it done.
The figures given by the Minister of State
The Central Government disclosed the figures of refilling of gas connections given under the Ujjwala scheme in Parliament on the last day. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, told that 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana have not refilled the LPG cylinder even once. At the same time, 7.67 crore beneficiaries have filled the cylinder only once. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge had sought information related to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme.
Year to year figure
Rameshwar Teli said that between the year 2017-18, 46 lakh beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana did not refill a single cylinder. At the same time, the number of people who got refilled once was 1.19 crores. According to the Minister of State, 1.24 crore during 2018-19, 1.41 crore during 2019-20, 10 lakh during 2020-21 and 92 lakh during 2021-22 did not fill cylinder even once. Along with this, he also gave figures to those who refilled the cylinders once.
How much was the subsidy
Rameshwar Teli said that during the year 2018-19, 2.90 crores, during 2019-20, 1.83 crores, during 2020-21, 67 lakhs and during 2021-22, 1.08 crores Jwala Yojana beneficiaries got cylinder refilled only once. He also told that during the year 2021-22, out of total 30.53 crore domestic gas consumers, 2.11 crore have not refilled the gas cylinder even once. At the same time, 2.91 crore customers have filled the domestic gas cylinder once. Till April 2020, on filling the cylinder of Ujjwala gas, the poor used to get a subsidy of Rs 162 back.
What is the new rule
The government has distributed 9 crore free LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme. All these people are fixed Rs 200 per cylinder as LPG subsidy. The government has made a rule to give subsidy on 12 cylinders annually. From 21 May 2022 to 2022-23, the government has set these rules. Under the Ujjwala scheme, the government gives free gas connections to the women of poor families.
