Chinese fighter jets started hovering in Taiwan as soon as Nancy Pelosi left, 27 aircraft entered the Air Defense Zone

Chinese fighter jets entered Taiwan’s Air Defense Zone as soon as US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi left. 27 Chinese warplanes flew over Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone on Wednesday. In fact, Pelosi had traveled to Taiwan amid heavy opposition from China. Now as soon as he left, Chinese warplanes started hovering in the defense zone of Taiwan.
China considers the self-governing island as part of it. On Wednesday, Taiwan’s defense ministry said in a tweet, “27 PLA aircraft entered the vicinity of (Republic of China) on August 3, 2022.” Earlier, the US delegation that visited Taiwan had said that the US would not back down from its commitments to the self-governing island.
Pelosi is the first Speaker of the US House of Representatives to visit Taiwan in the past 25 years. China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, announced several military exercises around the island and issued several strong statements.
China warned on Tuesday that US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, despite her warnings, would have a “serious impact” on bilateral ties as it “seriously undermines” peace and stability in the region. Its state media said the army would conduct “targeted” operations to counter his visit. China lodged a protest at the diplomatic level, saying Pelosi’s visit violates the “one China principle”. He accused the US of playing the Taiwan card to control him.
Earlier on Wednesday, Pelosi said the US delegation visiting Taiwan was sending a message that the US would not back down from its commitments to the self-governing island. In a brief statement after meeting with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen, she said, “Today the world faces the challenge of choosing between democracy and autocracy. America’s commitment to defending democracy in Taiwan and everywhere around the world remains unshakable.”
