Uttarakhand / Devprayag : Husband and wife were returning after seeing Kedarnath, woman dies after falling into a ditch while taking selfie
A married woman fell into a deep gorge while trying to take a selfie in Saudapani near Totaghati on Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, in which she died on the spot. Police station Devprayag’s SSI Anirudh Maithani said that at around 7:30 pm on Tuesday evening, Rahul Saini, a resident of Dharampur, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, was returning after visiting Kedarnath with wife Priyanka (27) on a bike.
He stopped for a while at Saudapani towards Rishikesh, about 22 kms from Devprayag. During this, Rahul Saini was only a short distance away, when his wife Priyanka started taking selfies on the roadside. During this she fell into a deep gorge due to loss of balance.
A rescue operation was carried out by the police and SDRF team, who reached the information, but due to heavy rain, the operation had to be stopped due to stone falling in the ditch. Then after starting the rescue at five o’clock on Wednesday morning, after a hard effort of about two hours, the body of the woman was taken out from the ditch, which has been sent to AIIMS Rishikesh for post-mortem.
