Police and SOG together arrested five accused who opened fire on the owner of Mora Tara Jewelers showroom and demanded extortion of Rs 50 lakh in the name of infamous Sunil Rathi.
Exposed extortion and shooting
The mastermind of the incident turned out to be a dismissed bank employee from Bijnor. A car, scooty, a pistol and a pistol have also been recovered. Scooty-riding youth opened fire
Nipun Mittal, owner of Mora Tara Jewelers showroom in central Haridwar, was returning home on a scooty on the night of July 26 during the Kanwar fair. Before the police could solve the mystery of the shooting, threatening calls started coming on Nipun’s mobile and the process of demanding extortion of 50 lakhs in the name of the infamous Sunil Rathi started.
Searched the horoscope of more than 350 mobile numbers
Four police teams were formed under the direction of SP City Swatantra Kumar and ASP Jwalapur Rekha Yadav. After scanning the footage of CCTV cameras, after marking the suspicious car and scooty, the horoscope of more than 350 mobile numbers was scanned and while raiding in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Himachal, Bijnor, then a trap was laid with the help of informer system.
Finally, on Friday, the joint teams arrested the mastermind Pradeep Chauhan and fellow Sachin Prajapati, Kaushal Kumar, Arun Kumar resident of Nawada, Nahtaur and Ankur resident of village Fina, police station Siwala Kala Bijnor from near Ranipur Jhal. He was sent to jail after being produced in court. During this, the entire team of police and SOG including SP City Swatantra Kumar, ASP Rekha Yadav were present.
The idea of extortion came on buying jewelery
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Yogendra Singh Rawat told that mastermind Pradeep Chauhan has been jailed in 2015 in connection with the robbery in Dehradun Premnagar area. A check bounce case is also going on against him in Dehradun itself. He needed the money to save his life by compromising.
A few days ago, while staying with a flat on rent in Kankhal and Jwalapur, he went to the Mora Tara Jewelers showroom with his wife to buy jewelry. On the jewelery box, he found the mobile number of showroom owner Nipun Mittal. So he planned with his comrades first to intimidate Mittal and fired shots and then sought extortion in the name of Sunil Rathi.
Four teams shed sweat together, then case open
Due to the complicity of the matter, the SSP appointed the first team under the leadership of Jwalapur Kotwal RK Saklani, the second team under the SOG in-charge Inspector Narendra Bisht, the third team under the railway post in-charge Praveen Rawat and the fourth team under the leadership of constables Prem, Nirmal and Jitendra. Assigned different tasks while forming.
The result of better coordination between the police and the SOG team was that the police solved the mystery of the sensational case within a week. Especially SOG in-charge Ranjit Tomar and rail post in-charge Praveen Rawat worked hard. Congratulating the police team, the SSP has announced a reward of Rs 25,000.
