Uttarakhand : CM Dhami met Railway Minister, urged to start Jan Shatabdi between Tanakpur-Dehradun

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday met Railway and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and urged him to start Jan Shatabdi rail service between Tanakpur and Dehradun in the state and cooperate in many other development projects. According to a statement issued by the State Information Department here, it was a courtesy meeting of the Chief Minister with the Railway Minister during which Vaishnav, on Dhami’s request, approved 1206 mobile towers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Uttarakhand. The cost of each mobile tower will be Rs 1 crore. The Chief Minister also urged for starting a Jan Shatabdi rail service between Tanakpur-Dehradun. Tanakpur comes under the Chief Minister’s assembly constituency Champawat.

According to the official statement, Dhami freed the state government from paying the remaining due amount of 99.01 crore against 50 percent contribution while finalizing the amount of contribution paid so far by the state government to Rs.296.67 crore in respect of Roorkee-Deoband rail project. also urged to The Chief Minister said, “At present there is only one train service running between Dehradun-Kathgodam to connect Kumaon and Garhwal. Due to the Nepal border, the movement of people there from Tanakpur itself. Therefore, to further strengthen the Kumaon-Garhwal link, it is necessary in the public interest to operate a Jan Shatabdi Rail on the Tanakpur-Dehradun route.

The statement said that Dhami has decided to make Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail line broad gauge instead of narrow gauge, double lane Haridwar-Dehradun rail line, modernization of Harrawala railway station, Rishikesh-Uttarkashi rail line and Kichha-Khatima rail line. Also requested for which the Railway Minister agreed. The Chief Minister also requested to make necessary arrangements to complete the journey in five-six hours while reducing the travel period of the Purnagiri Jan Shatabdi running between Tanakpur to Delhi.
