Do not believe in a house which does not have the tricolor; Controversy over BJP President’s statement in Uttarakhand, now clarified
Newly-appointed president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttarakhand unit Mahendra Bhatt said on Friday that his demand for photographs of houses not hoisting the national flag was not for the general public but only for party workers. It is worth noting that at an event in Haldwani, Bhatt had said, “We will never be able to look at a house where the tricolor will not be used with confidence. I want a photo of a house where the tricolor is not displayed.
Bhatt, who has come under attack from opposition parties for making such a demand, said that any person having true feelings for the country would not hesitate to hoist the tricolor at his home to celebrate 75 years of independence.
He clarified that his remarks were only with reference to party workers. However, he said, “I firmly believe that whoever feels for this country, will not hesitate to put up the tricolor at his home.”
The state president of the party said that our freedom fighters went to the gallows to honor the tricolor. “I want the tricolor to be hoisted at every household across the country on Prime Minister’s call to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’,” he said. Reiterating his statement recently in Haldwani in Nainital district, Bhatt said. That the country will not believe those who will not hoist the tricolor at their homes on this occasion.
