SC closes contempt case in Babri case, cases related to Gujarat riots also hushed up

The Supreme Court has decided to quash some cases related to the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. The court has quashed a batch of contempt petitions against state officials and others in the aftermath of the demolition. The Supreme Court took note with the passage of time and said that the contempt case cannot proceed further in view of the 2019 apex court verdict on Ayodhya. The Supreme Court said that the contempt petition should have been listed earlier. But after the Ayodhya land dispute verdict (9 November 2019) between Hindus and Muslims, the hearing on this issue is no longer proper.
A petitioner, Muhammad Aslam Bhure, had filed a petition in the year 1991. Whereas he had filed a contempt petition in the year 1992. However, he died in 2010. At the same time, citing the death of the petitioner, the top court also closed the case related to contempt of court against former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in the Babri Masjid demolition case. The court said that a lot of time has passed. Ayodhya verdict came in the year 2019. In view of this, now this case is not justified.
SC closed many cases
Explain that the case related to the ‘contempt’ petition against Kalyan Singh and others was started because of this. Because the Uttar Pradesh government had given permission for Rath Yatra and Babri demolition despite the assurance of security by the government. The Supreme Court has decided to close only these cases. Because more than 30 years have passed since these cases and the petitioner and the former Chief Minister are dead.
8 out of 9 cases related to Gujarat riots closed
In another judgment, the Supreme Court has also closed several cases related to the 2002 Gujarat riots. A long list of petitions was pending before the top court. The court said that a lot of time has passed in these cases and now they have become useless. Therefore, the trial is being abolished in 8 out of 9 cases. However, the final debate in a case is currently going on in the trial court of Naroda village of Gujarat.
