Uttarakhand : Will get rid of jam, country’s fourth big tunnel will be built in Mussoorie

This 4-lane tunnel to be built on Mussoorie Bypass Highway will connect Mussoorie Dehradun with Uttarkashi Marg. The special thing is that due to the construction of this tunnel, lakhs of tourists coming to Mussoorie will get freedom from the jam. Along with this, 5-6 lakh tourists coming here will also get relief from the jam, who pass through Mussoorie to visit Gangotri-Yamunotri Dham. During the peak season, there is traffic jam on this route throughout the day.
Alignment complete, tender will be issued soon
NHAI has made a major breakthrough in the construction of a proposed 4.5 kilometer long tunnel to bypass the jam of the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie. Tunnel alignment work has been completed. With this, the tender preparation has been started. In the review meeting of road projects on Wednesday, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director Pankaj Kumar Maurya has informed DM Sonika about the tunnel.
Tunnel transferred from NH to NHAI
NHAI Project Director Pankaj Maurya told the DM that earlier the task of construction of the project was given to Doiwala, National Highway Section, but now the project has been handed over to NHAI. 14.7 hectares of government and private land is coming under the project.

This tunnel will start from about 1.5 km ahead from the turn of Dehradun’s Hath Paon Road, which will open near Hotel Aquesta near Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration.
Traffic will be jam packed
In Mussoorie, the situation of jam becomes dire during the tourist season and weekends. People who do not have to go to Mussoorie city, but have to travel from Dehradun to Tehri and Uttarkashi, also get stuck in the jam. This situation will not arise after tunnel construction. Traffic will continue at a smooth speed.
Land of 7 villages acquired on NH 72
DM Sonika sought the progress of land acquisition in various road projects of NHAI. Authority officials said that in the widening of the Ballupur-Paonta Sahib highway, land of 7 villages out of 21 villages has been acquired. So far, compensation of Rs 135 crore has also been distributed.
Gazette notification for construction of Jhajhra-Asharodi road
In the 12 km long road construction between Jhajhra-Asharodi, 6 km is forest and the rest is private land. Here a gazette notification is being issued for land acquisition. Apart from this, 5 hectares of private land is coming up in the road widening between Rishikesh-Bhaniyawala. Final notification for acquisition of land is being done.
After completing the alignment work of Mussoorie Tunnel, the land acquisition process has been started. The tender for the tunnel project will be issued soon. This tunnel will prove to be a milestone to end the traffic jam in Mussoorie.
