Demand to enact law on ‘population control’, SC issues notice to Center, seeks reply

Once again a demand has been made to make a law regarding population control. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court in this regard. The top court has issued notice to the central government on this petition. Swami Jitendranand Saraswati has filed this petition in the court. The court has sought a response from the central government on the petition of Jitendranand Saraswati. Religious saint Swami Jitendranand Saraswati, in his petition filed in the Supreme Court, had said on April 13 that a law should be brought for population control. He had said that the rapidly growing population of the country is responsible for half of India’s problems.
Jitendranand Saraswati said that the government is not able to provide employment to the growing population nor is it able to meet the basic needs like food, water. This is the reason why special attention should be given to population control law to meet these essential requirements. Swamy also said that if the population law is not brought soon, then the country may move towards ‘broken’. He said that if the population is less, then everyone will get employment and clean water, food and pure environment will also be available.
Petition was also filed on 15 June
Earlier, on June 15, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court for making laws and framing guidelines to control the population. This petition was filed by Devkinandan Thakur, a narrator and spiritual guru of Mathura. In this petition, it was demanded that the Central Government should be directed to enact a strict population control law. It was said in the PIL that it is necessary to make a population law for the protection of the fundamental rights under Articles 14, 15, 19, 21 of the Constitution, for this the Center should be directed.
Bad effect on women
The Supreme Court had issued notice to the Center on a PIL filed by Devkinandan Thakur. Devkinandan had said in the petition that as an alternative, the apex court may direct the Law Commission to suggest measures to reduce the population and review the population control laws and policies of developed countries. He further said that such a law would ensure the protection of fundamental rights of citizens, including the right to clean water and food, clean air, and better health. Devkinandan Thakur also said that the impact of increasing population has been on women the most. Because there is pressure on them to have children again and again.
