History of Khumad Village: 5th September 1942 was the day. Under the campaign of Mahatma Gandhi, Quit India, a public meeting was going on in Khumad. A large number of people had gathered in the public meeting. From Ranikhet, the Pargana magistrate, Johnson arrived to quell the rebellion with Dalbal. Due to the confrontation, Johnson opened fire, in which Bahadur Singh and Chudamani were martyred along with two brothers Khimanand and Gangaram. Apart from these, more than 12 people were seriously injured. In the memory of this martyrdom, Martyrs Day celebrations are organized every year at the martyr memorial located in Khumad.
The spark of the smoldering movement from 1921: It is said that the flame of the independence movement in the Salt region started smoldering since 1921. Gradually the movement took a wider form. As a result, British rule in Salt became ineffective. Here a parallel government of the rebels was established. Under the leadership of Pandit Purushottam Upadhyay and Laxman Singh Adhikari, residents of Khumad, a front was opened against the British in the Salt area. In 1931, a large number of arrests were also made in the forest of Mohan.
