The names of the successors of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Dwarkapeeth, have been announced. It was done on Monday in front of the body of Ji.
Shankaracharya’s personal secretary Subodhanand Maharaj announced the names of the successors. According to this, Avimukteshwaranand will be the new Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth and Sadanand Saraswati will be the new Shankaracharya of Sharda Peeth. Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati passed away on Sunday afternoon. He was 99 years old. He will be given samadhi on Monday at Paramhansi Ganga Ashram in Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh.
When did Swami Swaroopanand become Shankaracharya?
Swami Swaroopanand was made a Dandi Sanyasi in 1950. He took initiation of Dand Sanyas from Brahmalin Shankaracharya of Jyotrimath Peeth, Swami Brahmanand Saraswati and came to be known as Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. He received the title of Shankaracharya in 1981. He was the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth as well as Jyotishpeeth of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. He got the title of Shankaracharya of Jyotishpeeth after a long legal battle.
Early Life of Swami Swaroopanand
Astrologer and Shankaracharya of Sharda Peeth Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was born on 2 September 1924 in Dighori village of Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh. Her childhood name was Pothiram Upadhyay. Saraswati left her home at the age of nine and started pilgrimages. He was also kept in jail for opposing the British during the freedom struggle. Followers of Shankaracharya said that he became Shankaracharya in 1981 and recently the 99th birthday of Shankaracharya was celebrated.
