Uttarakhand / Roorkee : IIT Roorkee professor dies under suspicious circumstances, lived alone in flat

A professor at IIT Roorkee has died under suspicious circumstances. His body was found in a closed flat. After the foul smell emanating from the flat, other faculty living in the neighborhood have informed the IIT security officer about this. Police reached the spot and took the body in possession and sent it for post-mortem.

Professor Kailash Chand Gupta, posted in the Department of Chemistry at IIT Roorkee, lived in a B-5 flat on the fifth floor in Hillview Apartments, located on the IIT Roorkee campus.
Neighboring professor gave information on foul smell
At around 6 pm on Monday, another professor who lived in the neighborhood told the security officer of IIT Roorkee that the flat of Professor Kailash Chand Gupta had been smelling bad for a few days. Now the smell has increased a lot.
Police reached the spot on information
Professor Kailash Chand Gupta did not even appear for four-five days. Seeing the apprehension of something untoward, the IIT security officer informed the Kotwali Roorkee police about the matter. On information, police reached the spot.
Professor found dead on chair in room
The door of the flat was broken in the presence of the police. There was a lot of foul smell inside the flat. Inside the room the professor was lying dead on a chair. Police have taken the body in possession and sent it for post-mortem.
Professor lived alone in the flat
Police said that the professor lived alone. He was unmarried. He was about 63 years old. He is originally said to be a resident of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. For the last five-six days, he did not even go to class. Looking at the dead body, it seems that it is four-five days old.
Case is being investigated
Kotwali in-charge Inspector Devendra Singh Chauhan said that the matter is being investigated. IIT Media Cell says that the body of Professor Kailash Chand Gupta was found in his flat. The police have been informed about this. Along with this, information is also being given to their relatives.
