Central government reshuffled 13 IAS officers

In a major reshuffle at the administrative level on Thursday, senior officer Sunil Barthwal has been appointed as the new commerce secretary, while Vivek Bhardwaj has been made the mining secretary. In an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, information was given about this administrative reshuffle at the top level. According to the order issued, Barthwal, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Bihar cadre, has been appointed Commerce Secretary. Till now he was posted as Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Barthwal has been posted as OSD in the Department of Commerce with immediate effect. He will take over as the secretary after BVR Subramaniam retires on 30 September. Subramaniam has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of ITPO for two years.

Aarti Ahuja, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, has been made Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Employment in place of Barthwal. Ahuja will be replaced by Arun Baroka, who is currently the Special Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Vivek Bhardwaj, a 1990 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, will be the new mining secretary. He will replace Alok Tandon, who is going to retire at the end of the month. At the same time, Mukhmeet Singh Bhatia, posted as Director General, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, has been appointed as Secretary, Minority Affairs.

Arun Singhal, Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has been made the Secretary, Fertilizers under the Ministry of Fertilizers and Chemicals. Anjali Bhavra, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, has been sent to the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment on the same post. Bhavra will be replaced by Rajesh Agarwal, who was till now posted as Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Atul Kumar Tiwari, working as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has been made Skill Development Secretary in place of Agarwal. Rajesh Kumar Singh, a 1989 batch IAS officer working in his cadre state Kerala, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Vijay Kumar Singh, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, will be the Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare.

G Srinivas, a 1990 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, will be the new Parliamentary Affairs Secretary. Srinivas is currently Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has promoted Rajeev Jalota, a 1988 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer to the rank and pay of Secretary in the Government of India. He is currently the chairperson of the Mumbai Port Trust.
