Sharad Pawar’s bad words on women’s reservation, question on the mentality of North India; Congress also showed mirror
The leaders of Maharashtra often give statements about North India. The latest statement has come in front of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar. He has said that the mindset of North India and Parliament is still not conducive to giving reservation to women in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies. The former Union Minister said this at a program organized by the Doctors Association in Pune on Saturday. His daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule was also present at the event.
Sharad Pawar was replying to a question on the Women’s Reservation Bill, which aims to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies. The bill is yet to be passed in Parliament. Sharad Pawar said that he has been speaking on this issue in Parliament ever since he was a Lok Sabha member of the Congress.

She said, “The mindset of Parliament regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, especially in North India, has not been favourable. I remember when I was a Lok Sabha member of Congress, I used to talk about the issue of reservation for women in Parliament. Once I finished my speech, I looked back and saw that most of my party MPs got up and left. That means it was not digestible even for the people of my party.”
The NCP chief said that all parties should keep making efforts to get the bill passed.
“When I was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, reservation for women was introduced in local bodies like Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti. Initially it was opposed, but later people accepted it,” he said.
