Sri Lanka’s third consecutive win, beat South Africa Legends by 11 runs

Sri Lanka Legends continued their winning streak by defeating South Africa Legends by 11 runs in their third match of the Road Safety World Series 2022 played at the Holkar Stadium here on Sunday. This is Sri Lanka’s third consecutive win. Sri Lanka set a target of 166 runs in front of South Africa. Morne van Wyk’s (76 runs, 56 balls, 4 fours, 6 sixes) at one point looked to be in good shape but the Sri Lankan bowlers put pressure on the match after the 11th over. South African team could score 154 for 6 at the end of 20 overs.

South Africa, however, could not get off to a good start chasing a relatively average score. Last match’s hero Andrew Patik was dismissed for a total of 18 runs but after that Vick and Alvaro Pietersen (22 runs, 22 balls, 2 fours) took the score to 92 runs. Peterson became the victim of Jeevan Mendis on this yoga. Vick’s innings, however, continued. Vick then tried to lead the team to victory with Jacques Rudolph (10 runs, 7 balls, 1 four) but Rudolph was unfortunately run out for a total of 118. He was run out by Chaturanga de Silva.

Captain Jonty Rhodes (3), who came to replace Rudolph, also could not do much. The pressure on South Africa was increasing. 42 runs were needed from 25 balls. Frozen batsman Vic could only try for it but Nuwan Kulasekara ended the hope by dismissing Vic for a total of 128. Kulasekara took two wickets for Sri Lanka. Captain Dilshan, Isuru Udana and Jeevan Mendis got one success each.

Earlier, Sri Lanka, batting first after losing the toss, scored 165 for 6 in 20 overs. Jeevan Mendis returned unbeaten on 43 off 27 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes while Upul Tharanga contributed 36 runs off 27 balls with the help of seven fours. Dilshan Munaweera, who scored a brilliant half-century in the first match, contributed 26 runs in 24 balls with four fours and Asela Gunaratne contributed 25 runs in 17 balls with the help of four fours.

Sri Lanka cheaply lost the wicket of their captain Tillakaratne Dilshan (1) but then Munavira and Tharanga took charge of the situation, adding 61 runs for the second wicket. For South Africa Legends, Garrett Kruger made two breakthroughs while Vernon Philander and Johan Botha got one wicket each. Two Sri Lankan batsmen – Tharanga and Chamara Silva (18) were run out.
