New tax will be imposed on coming to Uttarakhand from outside states, only these vehicles will be exempted

Green cess will now be charged in place of entry tax from vehicles from other states coming to Uttarakhand. This cess will be levied on both commercial and private vehicles.

Only two wheelers and tractors will be exempted from this. This cess will be used for road safety works. The Transport Department is preparing the software for this.

Tourists come in large numbers from different states

The Transport Department still collects entry tax from commercial vehicles coming from other states. Uttarakhand is a tourism state. A large number of tourists come here from different states.

The weight of the state vehicles in the state roads is more than that of the vehicles of other states. For road safety, the Transport Department takes green cess for the purchase of new vehicles in the state or while depositing the tax, but not from the vehicles outside the state.

This cess will be kept from 30 to 60 rupees

The Center has asked all the states to abolish the entry tax sometime back. In such a situation, the Transport Department is preparing to abolish the entry tax and impose green cess on vehicles coming from outside the state. This cess will be kept from Rs 30 to Rs 60. Since the department has now abolished the checkposts, the cess will be taken online.

Wide publicity will be given for this. Provision will also be made to pay quarterly and annual fee for daily or most of the visitors in the state, in which some exemption will be arranged.

Joint Transport Commissioner SK Singh said that software is being prepared for this right now. After this, this system will be started after getting approval from the higher level.

Vehicles will be charged like this

Number Plate Recognition (NPR) cameras will be used to ensure that the cess is collected from the vehicles coming from outside the state. These cameras are being installed at the state borders.

NPR camera will be able to know which vehicle has come after paying tax and which is not. A message will reach to the vehicle owner and enforcement team who has not come by paying the tax. This will ensure cess recovery.
