CBI’s big action on child pornography, raids 56 places in 20 states by running ‘Operation Meghchakra’

CBI raids are going on at 56 locations in 20 states and union territories in connection with online child sexual abuse material (CSEM). It has been named ‘Operation Meghchakra’. The CBI is conducting raids based on inputs shared by the Interpol unit of Singapore and New Zealand. According to the CBI, many such gangs have been identified, which not only do business of material related to child sexual pornography, but also physically blackmail children. This gang works both ways. In a group and also individually. Let us tell you that last year also an operation was carried out regarding this, whose name was Operation Carbon.

Child pornography is not a new case in the country. This has been a matter of constant concern in the country. The Supreme Court has also expressed concern about the videos and content of child pornography being uploaded on social media sites in India.
SC has sought answers from social media companies
This week, on 19 September 2022, the Supreme Court had asked social media companies about the steps taken to prevent uploading of child pornography and rape videos on social media. Along with this, the top court had asked all social media platform companies including Facebook, Twitter to file compliance reports in 6 weeks. The Supreme Court also asked these companies of social media platforms to tell what steps they have taken to stop child pornography and rape videos from being uploaded on their platforms. All companies will file a detailed report in this matter.
Let us tell you that in the case related to child pornography last year, CBI had raided 77 locations in 14 states of the country, from Jalaun, Mau in UP to Noida and Ghaziabad. During this, the CBI had arrested 7 people from different cities. There were more than 50 WhatsApp groups on the radar of the CBI, in which the names of more than 5000 people were revealed, who were sharing the material related to this case on social media.
