Uttarakhand : The issue of horizontal reservation of 30 percent for women, the government will bring an ordinance, has also decided to go to the Supreme Court

The Uttarakhand government will bring an ordinance to maintain 30 percent horizontal reservation in government jobs and admissions to the women of the state. Along with this, a special grace petition will be filed in the Supreme Court against the decision of staying the order of horizontal reservation in the High Court. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given permission to conduct SLP and bring an ordinance. Due to the ban on the mandate of horizontal reservation, various recruitment processes in the state have been put on hold. The problem of horizontal reservation may get stuck in the recruitment from the Public Service Commission. All these apprehensions have increased the pressure on the government to maintain horizontal reservation.

The Chief Minister had directed the officers of the Department of Justice, Law and Personnel to find some legal way in this regard. The Law Department was asked by the Chief Secretary to make a detailed note in this regard.

According to official sources, a meeting of high officials regarding horizontal reservation was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dhami on Friday. In this meeting, there was a deep brainstorming on the circumstances created by the ban on horizontal reservation and the future implications and options to fight the legal battle to maintain it. Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Secretary Justice Dhananjay Chaturvedi, Secretary Personnel Shailesh Bagauli were present in the meeting.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister gave approval to file an SLP in the Supreme Court to keep the women’s reservation intact. Along with this, instructions have been given to prepare for bringing an ordinance to maintain the horizontal reservation.
