Deepak Hooda out of T20 series due to injury, Shreyas Iyer set to return to main team

The Indian team has to play its last series against South Africa before the T20 World Cup. Deepak Hooda is no longer going to play in this series as he has been ruled out of the series due to injury. ESPNcricinfo has reported that Hooda has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. Apart from Hooda, Mohammed Shami is also not sure to play in this series. Meanwhile, there are reports that Shreyas Iyer is going to return to the main team of India as he is currently with the team as a reserve player.

Hooda was not available for team selection in the last T20I series against Australia due to injury while Shami has not traveled to Thiruvananthapuram for the first T20I against South Africa. Shami had become Corona positive before the Australia series and he still has not recovered from his full life. In such a situation, Shami is not sure to play in the T20 series against South Africa. If Shami is not fit till the start of the series, then another fast bowler Umran Malik can be included in his place.

Umesh Yadav, who replaced Shami, has toured Thiruvananthapuram with the team and is expected to be a part of the three-match T20I series as well. There is still no decision on whether Shami will now be able to tour Australia with the Indian team for the T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that Hooda’s injury may require the attention of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical team. He hasn’t even toured K Thiruvananthapuram with the team and now Shreyas Iyer, who was picked as the standby player for the series, may replace Hooda in the main team.
